Thematic Photographic 47 – Musical

Old Piano

One of my sisters-in-law, who is now 17 years old, gave this toy piano to my daughter. What’s amusing about this toy is, no matter what keys you strike, the succession of notes will always end up with the tune of “Old McDonald had a farm” song.

Note: I got curious and checked over at Ebay. It says it is a vintage 1984 playright piano and is being sold at $5. :lol:

fully made up

The trouble with not knowing how to put make up on is you have to bug a friend or pay someone to do it for you when the need arises. Yesterday, hubby and I attended my manager’s wedding. I knew that my friend (who willingly does my makeup on occasions like this) was busy taking care of her husband who had an asthma attack. So I had no choice but to pay for it.

First, I didn’t want to spend so much when I was just a guest, not best friends nor a relative to the groom/bride. So I thought I’d go for the cheapest that I could find near our place. Have you heard of “Reyes haircutters”? That’s where I went. The guy/gay who did my makeup/hairdo looks like straight, really. At first, I did not trust him, because, like I said, he looked straight to me. But I liked the end results. :) PLUS, hubby did not give any comment when he saw me. I knew he liked it, or else, I’d hear lots and lots of comments from him. :lol:

I met my officemates on the reception. We occupied more than 3 tables. The ones who came in late had to sit with the Mesothelioma lawyers on the next table.

Funny, everytime someone from our tables was called during the raffle (yes there was a raffle. the grand prize was, what else, an HP mini hehehe), all of my officemates went cheering. We even almost won the wackiest photo (from the photo booth).

We did not bring our SLR, hubby told me not to. Hmm, I must admit I enjoyed the night more without the camera. :)

after the rain

When I woke up, it was raining. I thought I can take pictures of the garden while it’s wet. But I couldn’t get out of bed, yeah, bed weather. When I was ready to take pictures, the garden was almost dry.

focal length of 214 mm; shutter speed of 1/40 ;aperture of f/5.0

Well, I will just try my luck tomorrow, perhaps. I will be working overtime today. I’ll browse for insurance online as well. I just hope to go back to bed this afternoon for some nap time! :D

5 things to blog about photography

I’m writing a list because these are the things I’d like to read about. Hope this gives others an idea. ^-^

1. camera settings used – trust me, I’ve been scanning a lot of photo blogs and I end up coming back to those blogs where I can learn good settings from.

2. composition and balance – there are countless beginners like me who would like to learn a thing or two. What may be simple to you could be a great discovery for us. E.g. rule of thirds, juxtaposition, etc.

3. post processing – a plugin / action you discovered online and enjoyed using to correct bad exposure. E.g. how to correct noise.

4. gear especially lens reviews and/or comparisons – beginners like me, almost always end up buying (additional) lens or external flash after buying the kit.

5. good lighting – well, I honestly think someone should create a blog / website solely on how to achieve good lighting.

Needless to say, sample photos should be included. We enjoy drooling. :D

warm and cozy

These days, the word “warm” reminds me of my favorite camera setting: shade. You see, I was once advised to achieve warm tones on my photos, use the “shade” or “cloudy” settings. But lately, I got so addicted using this settings that instead of looking “warm”, my photos looked “toasted” :lol:

The photos just looked amazing on the camera LCD but not on the computer nor in print.

So I take note (as consciously as I can) of my settings whenever I take pictures since, well, today. I hope I get it right, this time. :)

Doesn’t she just look warm and cozy? :)

3 days advanced for Manic Monday here.

kit lens and canon 50mm f1.8 comparison

As I was researching about insurance lead generation, I suddenly thought of comparing my kit lens (canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS) with our 50mm f1.8 lens. Well, that’s because when we still haven’t bought our 50mm, I kept looking online for the comparison. I thought this could be helpful to others who might be looking for one. :)

Canon 18-55mm @ 18mm; shutter speed of 1/4; aperture of f/3.5

Canon 18-55mm @ 55mm; shutter speed of 1/4; aperture of f/5.6

Canon 50mm; shutter speed of 1/30; aperture of f/1.8 (notice the bokeh)

Note: no editing done except for resizing and watermarks. :)

flower balloons

My sister in law manages a doughnut shop. Oftentimes, they launch their products with big parties. She’d bring my daughter, aside from doughnuts, toys, stickers and balloons. My daughter had a grand time playing with these balloons (shaped like one big flower) but got tired after an hour of doing so. She left them here and I just fell in love with the colored shadow it created. And so I took more shots.

Ruby Tuesday here and Wordless here.

Manic Monday: plant

It’s only April and yet, we have visited this resort thrice this year! I especially love the resort because the place is full of trees and flowers. It’s just so nice to take pictures around. In fact, the last time we were there, there was a group of photographers, the Pentax club I heard, doing a photo shoot.

Manic Monday here.

the priority test

Your Important Priorities Are Taken Care Of

For you, sex is usually your number one priority.

You don’t mind having things to get done… as long as they don’t pile up on you.

Your most important priorities get your attention. You are happily able to let the less important things slide.

You want thinking to be a high priority, but you don’t take enough time for yourself.

The (digiscrappers) secrets

Last Friday, I met up with fellow digiscrappers. The meet-up was for Trin who is in town for a vacation. We had a chocolate fountain set up, as per Trin’s request, and other desserts like pichi-pichi and blueberry cheesecake. All these in addition to our lunch/dinner buffet.

At first, we were chatting with non-trivial things like the best wrinkle cream. But as the sun started to set, the chat diverted to what most wives talk about. And as promised, nothing can be divulged outside that hotel room.

Yes, my lips are sealed. ;)

honeymoon/anniversary packages

As early as now, hubby and I have been browsing for a possible vacation destination for our 5th anniversary early next year. We’ve been looking for a place where you’d think of romance at every which way you look. We’re thinking of a nice honeymoon vacation somewhere in Cancun Mexico. Then we stumbled on the Karisma Hotels and Resorts.

They are offering several honeymoon and anniversary packages. You can enjoy a private candle light dinner for two on the beach, and a chilled bottle of champagne delivered to your room. There’s even a couple massage for half an hour. Now, isn’t that just romantic and relaxing?

updates! updates!

Oops, I haven’t been blogging here. I was busy with a lot of things, non-work-related thank goodness, last week. For one, all my blog entries were either motherhood related or scrapbook-related which both falls into my two other blogs. :)

~~~
What I really want to start doing is monitor my physical activities and my eating habits. I realized I had been sleeping late, and had been eating on a whim mostly chips and soda. I figure if I list them down, I’d be more conscious and probably start doing some “adjustments”.
~~~

I changed my nightly beauty regimen. Well, not the regimen itself but the products that I use. But when I woke up this morning, my face felt thick. Well, it kinda still does. :(

~~~
I was wearing my Mango cutoff slacks on my way to the office. It matched my wedge shoes. Made my legs look a bit longer. I hailed a taxi and just when I sat down, I heard a loud rip! U-oh! So I asked the cab driver if we could go back to our house so I could change. I didn’t like that someone was waiting for me so I grabbed the slacks that I first saw on my closet. I didn’t dare check myself in the mirror. I knew I would have to change everything if I did. Tsk, tsk.
