what angels do on weekdays

The reason I bought the 50mm f/1.8 also known as the nifty fifty was because, as an amateur, I want to achieve bokeh on my photos.

But what is bokeh. It is a Japanese term for the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of an image projected by a camera lens. If you notice that any shiny item on the background, once taken out of focus, becomes a little dot of light? That’s a scientific phenomena and it’s always a circle dot. Cool huh?

The above photo was not taken with my 50mm. :) I took this using my kit lens. Below is a simple bokeh tutorial.

So how do you achieve the bokeh effect on your pictures with a kit lens?

1. Make sure your subject is very near.
2. Make your background very far.
3. Zoom in (more than 50mm).
4. Use a big aperture (reason why the nifty fifty does it great. aperture is f/1.8 Note: the lower the number, the bigger the aperture. f/1.8 is a bigger aperture than f/2.0)

Try it! :)

after the rain

When I woke up, it was raining. I thought I can take pictures of the garden while it’s wet. But I couldn’t get out of bed, yeah, bed weather. When I was ready to take pictures, the garden was almost dry.

focal length of 214 mm; shutter speed of 1/40 ;aperture of f/5.0

Well, I will just try my luck tomorrow, perhaps. I will be working overtime today. I’ll browse for insurance online as well. I just hope to go back to bed this afternoon for some nap time! :D

no new photos

We went back to the Momarco resort last Saturday. We had an ocular inspection of the place a month ago. I enjoyed taking pictures of the place using 50mm f1.8 lens. The only disadvantage was the time. It was noon so the sunlight was intense.

I figure when we go back for the outing, I’d be taking pictures around 3pm. I had been practising in manual mode. The pictures were great on the LCD screen. But when I downloaded them into my laptop, they are all noisy, and not good at all. :(

Then I remember setting the ISO to 1600 because I found the photos to be too dark. I was using the kit lens. The 50mm would have given great photos ‘coz I’d probably won’t be adjusting the ISO to high. ISO 100 or 200 would be enough. Sigh!

for my dear aunties

Since I had the chance to finally resize the pictures, I am going to photo-spam my blogs tonight.
I’m posting pictures of my uncles and aunties for my other aunties who are living on other countries to see.

My father’s the one in black suit. :)

You might be wondering why one of my uncles look familiar. Hmm, you might remember him as Amante from the Mara Clara telenovela. ;)

yum yum

This week is so hectic! Yesterday was our company Christmas party. Imagine I had to finish one document that usually takes up 2-3 hours before I leave for the party. We had to go there early as to avoid heavy traffic. Anyway, I was able to finish the document in an hour. Whew!

Sharing a photo of the desserts. I’d say yummmmmmmy!!!

first

We are still charging the battery but hubby suggested we take some sample shots. I did. And I think I’d like to post the very first even with its absence of beauty and creativity.

Oh my, we need a prime lens.
